Email Server uptime monitoring
Monitoring your IMAP email server is a piece of cake!
IMAP Email Server Monitoring
IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. Basicaly is an Internet application layer protocol. It was designed from the beginning as a email retrieval and storage system. So an IMAP server provides a platform where emails could be stored for later access via a remote client. Incoming messages are stored inside each users email box until he decides to delete them. Keep in mind that this protocol is used to retrieve of emails not for sending them. SMTP is used to send them.
SMTP Email Server Monitoring
SMTP is short for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. If IMAP would be the North Pole than SMTP would be the Shouth Pole. While the first is used to receive emails, the second sends them. If you have both of them running on your server you should also monitoring both of them.
This message is a nasty one: Could not send your message. It could pop-up to your users and you might not even be aware of it. Don’t let it come to you by surprise. Or even worse, find out from your users!
POP3 Email Server Monitoring
POP3 is on the same side of the wire as IMAP is. The difference between them is that POP3 is designed to be able to deliver the messages to the client. So in a sense a POP3 client will download the messages from your POP3 Server.
Lacking uptime awareness for any of your POP3, SMTP or IMAP servers, will converge to the same result as follows:
- Users are always confronted with the inability of sending or receiving messages.
Not being aware of how often this happens,
will make it near to impossible for you to predict User Frustration Levels.
High levels of Customer Frustration will most certainly lead to: - Poor Customers Confidence. It can be done by improving your service availability. For that to happen you still need to monitoring your services. How would you perform measurements otherwise? Customers Confidence is very hard to achive and it's even harder to regain once lost. Not doing anything to regain Customer Confidence will inevitably lead to:
- Loss of customers, hence less profits. This is the convergence point of all issues regarding
service availability. It's common knowledge that poor customer service leads to this.
The path by which Poor Service Availability converges to Profit Loss is a very important thing to remember. You don't want this lesson learned by having it beaten into you.
Why Monitive to monitor your business?
Global network of nodes to PING your servers
Because only one location is not enough to be certain if your server is responding to PING echo request we will ping your servers from all these different locations:
USA
United Kingdom
France
New Zealand
Russia
Romania
Deutschland
Easy to read graphs and timetables
Once your service is set our system will start collection information about the replies it receives from your server. These replies are then ploted on a nice graph, which is very easy to read. Also a timetable will be made available for you. This will help you easily see what happend, on hourly basis for every day of the last 30 days or a specific date range choosen by you

We perform redundancy checks to avoid false positives
We developed this fails-safe-system from the beging, because we ran into the problem of false positives right from the start. Because we use a geographicaly spread system, if one of our servers fail for some reason, onther server will take the load and perform the required operations in order to deliver a precise and vaild result. All our systems have a backup. That includes the nodes, the masters and the alert system.

Customizable alerts to you, and checks to your website
Maybe your website makes you a lot of money and you want it checked every 1 minute. Or, if it is just a simple blog that you want to know it’s working but you don’t need it checked so often you could use 30 minutes check intervals.
The same goes with the alerts. We can alert you as soon something happens to your website. But again, you could choose to be alerted if your site is down more then a few minutes. It’s up to you to decide how you want it. We can make it happen which every way you want it! If you want to know more about the ability to customize your alerts and checking interval.
